Almost from the beginning of his career, Hugh became involved in professional motor racing, both as an engineer (working with Jack Brabham and Bruce McLaren) and as a race driver.

In later years he was appointed as a consultant to IBM and helped them develop the hugely successful IBM tennis partnership with the ATP. He also owned and helped to build up the largest youth tennis club in Britain.

In the 1990s Hugh became joint owner and Managing Director of MRS 2000 Ltd. – a professional motor racing sponsorship and sports marketing consultancy organisation with accounts in Formula 1 that included the McLaren, Renault and Williams Grand Prix teams. At MRS Hugh also established a number of successful professional rugby union consultancy agreements.

Hugh has also been a consultant to the Ayrton Senna Institute and the Senna family.

In 2006, became Founder and Partner of 2 Halves Ltd.

Hobbies include tennis, rugby, motor sport, walking, sailing, cooking, choral music and jazz.
